Tackling pumping jobs that require vertical lift means having the right tool for the right job. While using a vacuum truck to pump out a downhill tank installation may otherwise make for a slow and costly project, Pressure Lift’s Power Booster pumping nozzle provides a solution that overcomes lift restrictions entirely.
“There’s lots of jobs that are really inaccessible because of that difficulty,” says Scott Spear, COO of Pressure Lift. “Anything deeper than 25 feet, you’re really going to begin to struggle, especially at elevations greater than 3,500 feet. When you get to 30 feet, and 35 feet, you’re going to struggle more, and if you get to 40 feet, it could get much worse for you. This product not only overcomes the vertical lift limitations, it loads things much faster and cuts down on wear and tear.”
The Power Booster itself connects to a vacuum hose and an air compressor or jetter to drive it, which makes it easier to transfer liquids and highly viscous materials across long distances as well as deep vertical lifts. When utilized in combination with a vacuum truck, it reduces pumping times from hours to about 25 minutes, depending on elevation, viscosity levels, tank depth, and capacity. The 3-inch unit can pump down to 500 vertical feet or more pumping 100 to 125 gpm alone or be daisy-chained to provide additional coverage. Pressure Lift offers a range of sizing options (up to 8 inches) to accommodate a variety of vacuum pump configurations and higher flow rates.
“If you use it on a vane pump, it works great, but when you use a PD blower, it’s like putting that equipment on steroids,” says Spear. “It can move debris much easier if or when you use the larger blowers or an industrial vacuum truck.”
Operators like that the Power Booster reduces potential back strain on the job when the hose is full, and it’s also maintenance-friendly, due to shorter operations, lower pump temperatures and a lightweight aluminum design. Spear has been in business selling the Power Booster units for 33 years to customers in the liquid waste and refinery industries, among others, and has sold the product in 93 countries to date. In that time, he’s gotten plenty of positive feedback from pumpers who have needed to service tanks in tricky, deep locations, including pumpouts on crashed tankers where fluid is spilled.
Spear says a vacuum truck company in New England had a project that required them to go into a manufacturing building up through a window 30 feet in the air, string out 300 feet of hose to reach the tank access where it’s at, before dropping 60 feet of hose into the tank to reach the bottom.
“Our product really saved the day for them and they bought enough units to outfit their entire fleet,” he says.
