Hydroexcavation units are no longer the hulking behemoths they once were. Units are now being designed to be used in tight urban environments, bringing effective and efficient digging to those areas. But big hydroexcavating power means large, powerful components and with a limited footprint to mount those components, compact hydroexcavators can get cluttered quickly. That’s why every inch is valuable.

Cat Pumps recently introduced several compact, high-performance pumps to its product lineup that address those space constraints. These pumps feature a smaller footprint, achieved through the use of a direct-mount flange and hollow spline shaft. This design allows the pumps to pair seamlessly with compact SAE hydraulic motors, maintaining reliability while offering a more mobile-friendly size.

“These innovative spline shaft pumps are suitable for a variety of high-pressure applications that benefit from a smaller pump footprint including hydroexcavation, sewer jetting, potholing, daylighting and other mobile uses that require high-pressure water,” says Derek Majewski, marketing and business development specialist for Cat Pumps. “Our spline shaft pumps fit best in mobile equipment with hydraulic power systems driving other components.”

The model 2565T13 achieves flows up to 20 gpm at pressures up to 3,000 psi and pairs with an SAE B hydraulic motor with a 13-tooth spline shaft. This design reduces the pump’s width by over 7 1/2 inches compared to the standard bellhousing configuration. The models 3560T14 and 3560RST14 pair with SAE C hydraulic motors with a 14-tooth spline shaft and can reach flows of 20 gpm and pressures up to 4,000 psi or 25 gpm up to 3,000 psi. These models significantly decrease the overall pump and bellhousing width by more than 8 inches and allow the motor to be mounted on either side. Additionally, equipment builders have the option to add an electronic RPM speed sensor to ensure accurate and consistent pump operation.

“Cat Pumps works closely with OEMs and end users to find and develop new and improved pump components and technologies to meet ever-changing needs in the mobile marketplace,” says Majewski. “Customers have been utilizing our pumps extensively in their truck and trailer builds for decades. The demand for continued advancements and improvements to deliver more power in a smaller design has never been greater, and enables builders to create more compact trucks that can accomplish the same tasks as larger models.”
