When it comes to hydroexcavation, bigger is often better. Units with large payload capacities allow for more material to be transported, reducing trips to disposal sites and saving time and fuel. TRUVAC’s five-axle HXX Quint is just such an option, able to handle a superior payload without sacrificing performance or versatility.
“The HXX Quint was the result of a customer who needed more legal payload capacity than what was available, but didn’t want to sacrifice water capacity or vacuum performance,” says Jake McConnell, senior manager, brand and digital marketing for Federal Signal, TRUVAC’s parent company. “Customers know that when they have an issue, TRUVAC is going to listen and respond with a solution that is going to resolve their issue without sacrificing quality, performance or expectations of customer service.”
The HXX was the result of years of vacuum excavation research, customer input, testing and industry experience. As a heavy-duty, full-sized hydrovac, the five-axle unit is built to deliver maximum job site productivity. That includes the ability to hold 1,200 gallons of water, with a legal payload of 25,000 pounds. The simple controls on the HXX Quint are the same as the HXX four-axle for familiarity and ease. Also, as a vacuum excavator, the HXX Quint provides a safer, easy-to-use alternative for potholing, waterline repair, slot trenching, directional drilling, sign and pole installation, pipe and line repair and installation and other large-volume excavation. The HXX Quint’s five axles increase the maximum payload capacity beyond what the TRUVAC HXX four-axle could handle.
“The initial impression is that the truck looks long, but in reality, it is only about 15 feet longer than most full-size hydroexcavators, and once a customer drives the unit and experiences the maneuverability, their impression changes,” says McConnell. “The HXX Quint uses our proven platform that existing customers are already familiar with, while providing valuable increased payload.”
According to McConnell, the increased payload capacity is an industry game-changer.
“The real surprise is when you can work all day and not be overweight,” he says. “Downtime for contractors is profit lost; they need to be digging in order to make money. At the end of the week when the contractor is doing their books and realizes the productivity gain over the competition, they call and ask when they can get another Quint.”
