Choosing the right pump for your vacuum truck requires careful consideration. Bigger vacuum can mean moving faster from Job A to Job B, boosting profit margins, but weight is an important factor too. Fruitland Manufacturing’s newest RCF1400 Series rotary vane pump excels on both counts, providing continuous pumping at 910 cfm in a smaller package than its predecessor.

The RCF1400, released in September 2024, is Fruitland’s first successor to the RCF1200, a model the company has sold since 1977. Garrett White, business development manager, says the new model came with significant changes: It is built with a hydraulic drive on board, features an integrated air filter box and air injection system, and weighs 138 pounds lighter while boasting higher airflows of 194 cfm.

“This was an overdue upgrade in the performance, the weight, the size and the look of the pump,” White says. “So when you need a general-purpose, very powerful 4-inch pump, this is one of the best. I mean, it really just excels at everything that it’s given.”

Fan-cooled for increased airflow at 1,400 rpm, the RCF1400 pump tackles septic systems and grease trap service, while the air injection system safely allows continuous vacuum operation for up to three hours, maximizing productivity on job sites.

“Our air injection system provides a longer amount of continuous pumping time without having to shut your pump down and let it cool down, which means that we can get our job done faster, and we can get off the site quicker,” White says.

On residential sites, a job well done often means mitigating noise levels. At 85 dB, the pump provides high levels of volume reduction for its vacuum level.

“[Noise] can be a debilitating issue that can kind of stop a job,” White says. “For 4-inch rotary vane pumps that produce this much CFM, this could be the quietest.”

The 1400 has also optimized its oil reservoir and air filter box, which is now integrated into the unit. The oil injection system offers precise dosing and the 13 L tank allows 35 hours of runtime. White says the now-integrated air filter reduces maintenance costs down the line.

“It’s an additional guard to the pump and the components inside the pump, and it saves money on your vacuum system,” White says, “because with the 1200, you would have had to put an inlet filter somewhere on the system, which is usually much more expensive than simply having it integrated on your pump.

“It’s a no-brainer for anybody looking for the 1200 even if you’re replacing it on the same system,” White says. “So sales have been great, and, yeah, we’ve actually seen an increase in that segment too.”
