Startup or small-scale portable sanitation businesses that can’t afford a nicely outfitted service truck have another option from FMI Trucks Sales & Service: the WorkMate portable restroom service trailer, which offers the basic amenities of a service truck.
“The trailer is designed with the small restroom operator in mind, or someone who’s just getting started in the business,” explains John Barrett, a sales consultant for FMI’s vacuum truck division. “With this trailer, you don’t need to buy a separate service truck, or pay the associated higher operating, insurance and licensing costs. Instead, you can pull the trailer with a pickup truck.”
Designed with tandem axles that are over-rated for 5,200 pounds per axle, the all-steel trailer is 19 feet long and 8 1/2-feet wide, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 7,800 pounds. It comes with a standard 2 5/16-inch ball hitch, and a built-in tongue jack.
The trailer can carry two standard restrooms. It’s also equipped with a carbon-steel, 325-gallon wastewater tank and two 75-gallon, polyethylene freshwater tanks. Plumbed in tandem, the tanks can be used either together or individually (one for pre-mix deodorant water and the other for freshwater). A 12-volt water pump made by Jabsco, a division of ITT Corp., delivers freshwater at 10 gpm.
A Masport HXL1-V pump with a two-way valve, rated at 36 cfm, powers the self-contained vacuum system. A Honda 5 1/2-hp, electric-start engine drives the pump, and a 12-volt battery supplies basic power to the trailer. The battery sits inside a polyethylene storage box mounted on the drawbar. A tow vehicle charge cord allows operators to continually recharge the battery, Barrett notes.
The trailer comes ready to use with a 30-foot vacuum hose, wand and buckets. The hose and coupling are situated low to the ground for easy access. The trailer also features a curbside, dry-product storage box that measures 60 x 24 x 18 inches.
