Pumping Competition Is Stiff in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Region

Jason Muzzy, owner of Commonwealth Waste Solutions in Chester, Virginia, talks about the stiff competition for jobs in his region. The Chesapeake Bay Watershed Act requires residents to have their tanks pumped every five years, Muzzy says. “Folks in other parts of the country might think that’s amazing, but it brings a lot of competition, so it’s a double-edged sword.” Even so, Muzzy says he enjoys his job and answers to the customer the way most people answer to their boss. “I enjoy it because I help people. They call me in their most desperate times.”
