A dedicated and engaged workforce and an employee-centric culture have contributed greatly to a growth spurt at Rowell’s Services during the last five years.

But business-management technology and an external support network of business coaches and owners also played prominent roles in the Northfield, New Hampshire-based company’s transformation from a septic pumping and drain cleaning business to a fully diversified, home-services provider, says co-owner Mandie Hagan.

On the technology end, ServiceTitan — a business-management software platform designed for contractors — greatly improved efficiency and productivity by bringing the company into the digital age.

“It basically runs our company,” Hagan says.

The company also joined CEO Warrior, which gave Hagan and her husband, Ian, a co-owner of the company, access to business coaching and a network of business owners who willingly offer advice and guidance.

The company started using ServiceTitan in 2017 and Hagan says it’s critical to the company’s operations. For example, ServiceTitan automatically generates optimized routes for drivers — a far cry from the days when Hagan put together routes by manually taping and stapling together triplicate carbon-paper copies of hand-written work tickets that were so long she had to hang them on a wall.

“It blows my mind to think about how we used to do things,” she says. “We could never run our business that way anymore. Service Titan turned our company into a digital operation. Our technicians do everything on iPads, from viewing their routes and developing job proposals to generating invoices and taking credit-card payments.”

Joining CEO Warrior in 2016 was also a game-changer, she notes.

“That was an important resource for growing our company,” Hagan says. “It gave us the foundation to make our business better and helped us rebrand the company and develop effective marketing strategies.”

CEO Warrior offers members a wide range of training as well a network of like-minded business owners that can provide invaluable advice.

“When you have guidance, you can learn and grow quickly,” Hagan says. “You learn how to avoid the mistakes that other business owners have made. We have a worldwide network of business people that we can talk to and toss ideas around.”
