A Helping Hand

Arizona’s Palmer’s Benjamin Franklin Plumbing donates time and supplies for various local charitable causes.

When they’re not out dealing with plumbing emergencies or jetting out sewer lines, the folks at Palmer’s Benjamin Franklin Plumbing are volunteering their time to help out with projects around the company’s Youngtown, Ariz., home base.

Work with Habitat for Humanity, the Packages From Home campaign to help soldiers, and many community event sponsorships is all part of being good citizens in the community located near Sun City Ariz., according to Brian McQuistion, a spokesman for the plumbing contractor.

“It’s critical for us to give back. We’re always looking for ways to help make our community better,’’ McQuistion says. “When you can pull your team together and work on projects, it’s amazing how much you can accomplish. And it builds morale in the company.’’

The company has been operating under the Palmer name for 34 years, and affiliated with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing a year ago, McQuisition says. The company has long looked for charitable opportunities, among them has been sponsoring holes in charity golf tournaments and helping out with children’s causes.

Palmer’s has spent considerable time on Habitat for Humanity home building projects. McQuistion says employees recruit their families to help out with the houses, and have gone to the high schools where their children attend, seeking volunteers.

“All of our guys volunteer,’’ he says. “Every year we try to top our previous year.’’

The company has ramped up its fundraising efforts for Habitat for Humanity, earmarking $5 from every work invoice to go to the program, which helps low-income families build their own homes.

Most recently, the company signed up to provide a drop-off site for Packages From Home, a nonprofit organization that ships supplies to U.S. military personnel serving abroad. If Arizona pumpers want to drop off packages for the soldiers, they can contact Palmer’s at 623/933-1375.
