Animal Adventures With Pumper Steve Shaw

Have you been asked to help out with an animal rescue?

Last month, the Dahlonega Nugget in Dahlonega, Ga., reported that pumper Steve Shaw, of the local company Shaw’s Septic and Plumbing, aided law enforcement officials in an animal rescue in an underground pipe at an apartment complex.

According to the news account, residents called police to report hearing echos of a whimpering animal that seemed to be coming from an 8-inch drainpipe on the apartment property. Unable to get close enough to identify the source of the wailing, the local sheriff called in Shaw, who volunteered his time, using an inspection camera to crawl inside the pipe. The camera reached a ball of fur, thought to be a dog, and an excavator was used to dig down and open the pipe. Rescuers pulled out the animal, and were surprised to find an angry coyote, which promptly bolted into nearby woods. Have you been called to help out in an animal rescue or another emergency? If so, was it a good experience or a bad one? Would you be just as anxious to help out the next time a request like this is made? Such a happening could generate lots of positive publicity for your company … but maybe it could create some liability issues, too. What do you think? Send me an email at editor@pumper.com.
