Spring means warmer temps, longer days … and a whole lot of mud. For pumpers, that means tricky job sites, soft ground, and equipment that gets caked in dirt fast. Here are a few ways to keep things running smoothly when the thaw hits.

1. Don’t Get Stuck – If you’re pulling up to a muddy site, don’t assume you’ll be able to drive out. Use plywood, gravel or traction mats under your tires to keep from sinking. If it looks bad, park on solid ground and run extra hose.

2. Protect Your Equipment – Mud and moisture can wreak havoc on your pumps and hoses. Keep connections clean, check for clogs, and rinse down equipment regularly to prevent buildup.

3. Dress for the Mess – Waterproof boots, gloves, and rain gear are your best friends this time of year. Keep extra dry socks in the truck — you’ll thank yourself later.

4. Plan for Delays – Spring weather is unpredictable. Build in extra time for jobs, and if roads are too soft for a truck, work with customers to find a solution before you’re axle-deep in mud.

Spring pumping can be a hassle, but a little preparation goes a long way. Stay clean (as much as possible), stay safe, and roll with the season!
