One of my biggest grievances when servicing a portable restroom is wrapping and unwrapping the suction hose. The end of the hose is obviously very unsanitary so you want to keep that away from yourself and your clothing. Many times I’ve been wrapping up my hose only to have the hose end have a swing at me. Luckily, on most occasions I’m able to leap out of the way as if I was dodging a hand grenade that was tossed my way. Suffice to say it’s very annoying, unsanitary and messy.

The solution is to have the hose do its thing without having the nozzle end spin. This is exactly what VARCo’s swivel adapter does, and believe me it does it very well. We have used ours for several months and also found that the hose life increased. We believe the stress of fighting the hose’s natural tendency to spin as it unravels puts too much stress on the hose, ultimately decreasing its lifespan.

We purchased two types: one was aluminum and the other was plastic. I recommend aluminum; it’s a bit pricier than the plastic version but it spins so much easier. Another great benefit is that it does not leak out of the swivel joint. We’ve used it for both pressure and vacuum operations on a daily basis and so far so good.

It’s very easy to use, too. You simply install the swivel on the end of the hose before the ball valve and nozzle, typical of most portable restroom operator trucks. When you lift off your hose at a stop you simply take the amount you need and grab the nozzle and go, no untwisting needed, which saves time. When you wrap your hose back up you first put the nozzle end into the truck and then wrap the hose; it effortlessly and quickly twists itself into nice loops.

So save some time, save your hose, save your clothes, and make your long daily routes just a little bit easier by putting a swivel connector on the end of your hose.
