A new program in several counties throughout Missouri’s Ozarks region aims to improve the environment by helping homeowners pay for septic system maintenance, according to Ozarks Public Radio. A source tells the KSMU radio website that septic tanks should be pumped every two to three years at a typical cost of $100 to $200. The project manager of the James River Basin stressed the importance of routine maintenance.

It’s good to see someone explaining how septic systems work for the benefit of the general public. And it’s a bonus that the program offers a cost share to homeowners in several counties who are interested in keeping their systems working properly.
