The redesigned, CSA-certified PS Patrol outdoor pedestal-style alarm system from SJE-Rhombus features a high-water alarm with automatic reset, green power-on indicator, flush-mount horn silence/alarm test switch, easy-access wiring and receptacle that accepts a 120-volt pump and piggyback pump switch.

The angled design of the secured clear enclosure includes a removable cover for wiring access. Internal components are sealed within the cover for Type 3R weather protection.

“One of the features of the redesign is it now includes an innovative seal that keeps any ground moisture from getting into the electrical connections,” says Brett Wilfong, sales manager, SJE-Rhombus. “Typically with a pedestal alarm that’s been one of the weaknesses. If you get any moisture into the electronics it can cause false alarms. We solved that problem by providing a cord seal that allows you to pull the pump cable, pump switch and alarm switch up through the cord seal.”

Red LEDs illuminate the top of the cover in an alarm condition for 360-degree recognition. The controller accepts a 5-inch square plastic post or 4-inch pipe/conduit for mounting.

“Applications are any place where you don’t have gravity flow from your septic tank into your leachfield, such as utilizing a pump for moving the effluent,” he says. “This allows you to have an alarm to monitor the liquid level if you have a pump failure. It also allows you to have a piggyback plug for your pump control, so it makes the wiring very simple for the installer.”

The alarm system (82 decibels at 10 feet) is available with or without the 32-inch mounting post and measures 5 by 5 by 39 inches with the post and 5 by 5 by 8 inches without post. It also includes auxiliary alarm contacts.

“The benefit of having auxiliary alarm contacts is it allows you to connect the system to either a home security system or a phone dialer so you can get remote notification if there’s an alarm situation,” Wilfong says.

Options include mercury or mechanical switches, various cord lengths, riser assembly adapter, pump circuit breaker, DUO alarms and an elapsed time meter that allows the contractor or service provider to monitor pump usage.
