With the Pumper & Cleaner Environmental Expo just around the corner, PolyJohn’s Mike Adams discussed what the portable restroom manufacturer is most looking forward to at this year’s show. He’s been attending the Expo for 28 years, so we knew he’d have a few insights.

Q: What are you hoping to get out of this year’s Pumper & Cleaner Expo?
A: Like always, it’s an opportunity to see old friends – and maybe make a few new ones. It’s kind of like one big reunion for our PolyJohn guys.

Q: Did you learn anything at last year’s show that you’re adjusting for this year?
A: Yes. We definitely need to order more beer for our happy hour. Those pumpers can really sock it away. And additional bartenders have been secured.

Q: What new things can Expo attendees look forward to from PolyJohn this year?
A: Again – more beer.

Q: Speaking of beer – what kind will you be serving?
A: We’re thinking Miller Lite, but we’ve noticed that pumpers aren’t real picky.

Q: What do you do to let your clients and prospects know you’ll be at the show?
A: We do a lot of interviews – like this one – and also take advantage of a few advertising opportunities. Other than that, our guys know where to find us. They just follow the crowd at 3 p.m.

Q: How do you follow up on leads from the show?
A: Um – quickly? I mean, isn’t that the purpose of a trade show? Our team is always prepared to work the room, and several of our guys actually close deals on site. We have a follow-up plan in place. The week after the show, we’re on it.

Q: Why is it so important to get face-to-face time with clients at the Pumper & Cleaner Expo?
A: Other than seeing how attractive we all are, it’s the best way to turn clients into friends.

Q: What does your team do to prepare for the show?
A: We stock up on aspirin. We also start prepping in advance and work with several partners to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. It’s a lot of work, but if you have help and a good plan, it’s not that much of a headache.

Q: What makes the Pumper & Cleaner Expo so successful year after year?
A: It’s the only place pumpers can go talk openly about poop.

Q: Why do you keep going back to the Expo?
A: They keep inviting us back. Go figure.
