Turning a Small-Scale Side-Job Into a Substantial Business

Over the course of 20 years, Tidy Tim’s simple portable restroom operation evolved into a comprehensive septic services company employing three generations of family.

When he and his wife, Patty, first bought a small portable restroom company and an old Ford pumper truck more than 20 years ago, Tidy Tim’s Inc. co-owner Tim Hack never imagined it would turn into a large family business employing three generations of relatives. These days, Tidy Tim’s does everything from septic pumping to drain cleaning, septic repair and installation.

It’s a real team effort, says Hack. “For a long time I was hopeful that the family would get involved in the business, and we knew our son had plans of being involved, but we never dreamed that our son-in-law and daughter would both be involved.”
