Association News
Association Changes Name
At its annual convention, the Wisconsin Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association voted to change its name to the Wisconsin Onsite Water Recycling Association. The change reflects opportunities members will have to expand their businesses by offering stormwater management system installation to municipalities.
Four scholarship recipients were announced. Grayson Bulter won the $2,000 Robert Lindner Memorial Scholarship. He intends to major in engineering mechanics or engineering physics this fall. Brittany Rynes, who plans to study nursing, won the $1,500 Gretchen McQuestion Scholarship. Melanie Meier received $1,500 toward her business major, and Terran Thompson received $1,000 to study surgical nursing and anesthesiology.
Recycled Glass in Onsite Systems
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center briefed attendees at the Pennsylvania Association of Sewage Enforcement Officers conference about its efforts to reduce barriers to the use of manufactured recycled glass sand in onsite systems. The Department of Environmental Protection approved the product in 2003.
About 25,000 onsite systems are installed annually in Pennsylvania. According to the organization, if half are elevated mounds requiring 80 to 150 tons of material each, the result is a green-builders demand of 1 to 2 million tons, which manufactured recycled glass sand could fill. Call the RMC at 717/948-6660 or visit www.parmc.org.
