Private Treatment Plant Pioneer Gene Dube Passes Away
Eugene “Gene’’ Dube, a pioneer in development of private wastewater treatment plants in Maine, died April 24 after a long illness. He was 58.
As the owner and president of Pat Jackson Inc./Tri-City Septic Services, Dube was the first contractor to build a private wastewater treatment plant in Maine, according to Tom Ferrero, executive director of the National Association of Wastewater Transporters Inc.
Dube was active in the pumping industry as a longtime member of the board of directors of NAWT, the Maine Association of Waste Haulers, and the Maine Association of Site Evaluators. With environmental quality in mind, he started recycling septage by composting. He was involved with the state of Maine in educating septic inspectors for certification and was one of the first NSF-accredited wastewater inspectors in the country.
“Gene’s funeral was very touching; it was a celebration of a life cut too short and of a guy who really did just try to help along anyone he met along his life’s path,’’ said John de Rahm, one of Dube’s friends in the industry.
Dube is survived by his wife, Pauline Richard (Bazinet) Dube, five children and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Maine General Health, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903.
