As the National Association of Wastewater Transporters training programs continue to grow there is a new demand for trainers to become certified as qualified NAWT Instructors.

Recently NAWT held a Train the Trainer course in Waco, Texas. For nearly a year there has been an increasing demand for training opportunities in Texas. A request was made by a number of entities wanting to partner with NAWT and send individuals to a Train the Trainer workshop. Snowden Onsite Services, Texas Association of Real Estate Inspectors and Real Estate Training Systems were interested in becoming a part of the comprehensive NAWT training program and sent a letter of request to the NAWT
Education Committee.

The committee has developed criteria and requirements for individuals participating and certification in the NAWT Inspector Trainer workshops. The request needs to provide the following information:

• The reasons for participating in this program and future role in
training sessions

• Must be a current certified inspector – having completed the existing
course work

• Have a college degree or advanced equivalent courses

• Public speaking experience (degree or certificate)

• Industry affiliation of at least five years

• Or, in lieu of the above requirements, an individual can demonstrate
to the NAWT Education Committee the experience and ability to train.

Upon acceptance to the program, individuals will receive materials necessary to teach the specified training session, such as PowerPoint presentations, notes for teaching, handouts and manuals. The instructor will work with the trainer-in-training on any questions or issues with the materials or presentations.

Next, the trainer-in-training will team with a current instructor to co-teach a live workshop. An evaluation of his/her teaching techniques will be provided to them. It is expected the trainer will work within the NAWT training model.

The executive director will maintain a list of current trainers to be called upon if needed to teach NAWT-sponsored training sessions. The NAWT Training programs have a three-tier classification for trainers that sets benchmarks to help ensure the quality of material delivery and training of new trainers certified by others. The classifications are Authorized Trainer, Experienced Trainer and Lead Trainer.

NAWT offers a national accredited premier onsite wastewater inspector certification as a foundation to set those apart, and a gateway to other educational opportunities. NAWT certificates and continuing education programs give business owners and employees the confidence and credibility to demonstrate professionalism and expertise in the industry. Contact NAWT if you or your state would be interested in being a part of the Train the Trainer program or if you would like to learn more about
the program.
