Keep Stressing Professionalism

My husband and I owned a pumping business for over 20 years.

Dear Editor:

My husband and I owned a pumping business for over 20 years. He recently passed away, but he always felt he was a professional. He always read, went to classes and always educated his customers. He also did not feel that the “toilet humor” was appropriate in ads, Web sites and on trucks. There is a time and place for everything. When I came across your article (“Reading Between the Lines — Septic Jokes are no Laughing Matter,” March 2010), it reminded me of my husband and his views. The only way people will respect you and your profession is if you respect yourself and your profession. He always worked hard in his profession and always had a great sense of humor. I hope people in the profession take your article to heart.
