Enhanced performance and longevity and lower operating costs are hallmarks of the new PM Series of vacuum pumps from Moro USA Inc.

The PM60A, PM70A and PM80A air-cooled pumps incorporate new design features, such as six Kevlar, heat-resistant vanes that promote less air slippage, which improves performance and recovery time. In addition, a cantered rotor angles the vanes, which further improves performance, says Dave Flagg, company president.

“It’s a dependable, bullet-proof style of pump for us,” Flagg says, noting the models are designed for tanks ranging from 1,000 gallons for the PM60A to 3,000 gallons for the PM80A. “The design provides a higher cfm rating at 15 to 18 Hg, which is where most users would be at.”

The cantered rotor and Kevlar vanes allow the pump to generate 29 psi. “That really helps when you need to get heavy slurry out of the back of a tank. But at 29 psi, we recommend that you use a pressure relief valve, set at 5 psi on non-code tanks, to avoid blowing up the tank, and a vacuum relief valve set at 18 to 20 Hg,” Flagg notes.

The pumps also feature large bearings, which are sealed — not lubricated — to keep out contaminants, which improves longevity and decreases oil consumption. In addition, the more efficient design means the pump doesn’t need to spin as fast, which also increases longevity, Flagg says.

“We expect pumpers would get six to eight years of service before these pumps would need repairs or rebuilding,” he says. “If a pump lasts eight years as opposed to, say, four years, that lowers your operating cost.”

The pump comes with a built-in oil reservoir. An optional remote reservoir is available for certain applications where tight quarters make a built-in reservoir impractical. Moreover, a positive oiling system, which injects oil into the pump’s housing to keep the vanes lubricated, works under both vacuum and pressure. This boosts longevity in applications where the pump works at high pressure for long periods, Flagg explains.

The pumps come in gear-reduction models (3,000 rpms for use with diesel or gasoline engines and 540 rpms for agricultural PTO applications).
