Classy Truck of March

This month we feature Kerkstra Septic Tank Cleaning Inc.

This big red vacuum service truck makes a real statement rolling down the road for Kerkstra Septic Tank Cleaning Inc. The 1998 Peterbilt 377 has a 4,500-gallon aluminum tank from Imperial Industries and a 367 Challenger vacuum pump. The heavy hauler is powered by a 425-hp Cummins N14 engine with a 10-speed Eaton-Fuller transmission. It has a locking differential and dual stacks. Kerkstra’s bought the Pete in 2007, which had previously served as an over-the-road semi. The company did much of the work on its own to transform it to a day-cab rig, removing a sleeper and fifth-wheel plate and installing a custom patch panel for the cab. Kerkstra stretched the frame, installed a lift axle and painted the truck before taking it to Imperial, where the tank was fitted and painted the metallic maroon color used for the entire Kerkstra fleet. The truck has aluminum wheels and toolboxes, heated valves and hose trays sprayed with a bedliner. The truck carries 200 feet of hose so it can stay off driveways and lawns.
