Day 2 of the Pumper & Cleaner Environmental Expo International kicked off this morning with a state associations meeting of the National Association of Wastewater Technicians. At the breakfast meeting, the national trade group honored contractor Dave Kline, of Kline's Services in Pennsylvania, with the Ralph Macchio Lifetime Achievement Award. Kline was credited with utilizing new innovations in the industry, including operating a methane digester and a biofuel production operation. His company has 50 vehicles on the road and 80 employees.

Kline thanked his entire team at Klines for the company's growth. "We're very fortunate to have really great people,'' he said in accepting the award.

NAWT also announced that Carolyn Phillips of Pennsylvania is the winner of the 2014 William Hapchuk Memorial Scholarship. Further coverage of the NAWT awards will be printed in a NAWT News column in a future issue of Pumper.

NAWT also approved a slate of executive committee appointments. Current president Jeff Rachlin will continue in that role for another year. Gene Bassett of New Mexico was appointed vice president. Ralph Macchio and Tom Ferrero will continue as treasurer and secretary, respectively.

Association leaders also made a plea for more state associations to become actively involved in NAWT efforts and initiatives. Contractors interested in membership can visit the Expo NAWT booth, 1401, for more information.

You can reach me at the COLE Publishing editors' booth for much of Wednesday. I would like to learn more about your companies, and am looking for pumpers to include in our contractor profile features in the coming year. I look forward to visiting with you. Also, I am looking for folks to interview in our last session of 3 Minute Pumper videos at the booth 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday. We're having a great time making the videos and introducing Pumper readers to Expo attendees. I hope to see you soon!
